Developing your Background Knowledge

Keep up to date with developments in the sector. You can do this by joining a trade organisation or professional body. Use this membership as a way to network and meet people from the sector. You can also sign up to all the appropriate email newsletters for sector knowledge and jobs.

Read magazines and online content – use a library if available for access to materials or listen to relevant radio and TV content. There are many sector websites that have newsletters to keep you abreast of sector developments.

There are a number of books – many rather out of date – which cover this area. Many have limitations in terms of the sectors and countries they cover. Justin Taberham, manager of this website, is writing a global environmental careers guide, due for publication by Wiley in 2015/16.
